Calla Lily Tutorial
Sugar flowers are a beautiful way to dress any cake. Calla Lilys are one of the easiest to make, yet make a simple and effective style statement. The key is to maintain the right thickness of the paste and focus tremendously on the neatness of every step, and hence the over all result. Because of the simplicity of its design, it is important that the petals are neatly cut and folded cleanly. In the following sugar calla lily tutorial, I have demonstrated the process step by step in pictures. Hope it helps! Tools and Materials:
STEP 1, 2, 3: Cut, Frill, Texture
Cut out petals using a lily petal cutter. Gently frill edges with a small rolling pin. Instead of using any fancy veneers or tools, I used a dry paint brush to add texture to the petals. Steps photographed below:
The petal will have a nice texture like this:
STEP 4 &5: Shape
I used a large piping tip as a former. I dabbed the round edges with a bit of boiled, cooled water and folded over the petal edge as shown in pictures below to form the shape of the Calla Lily.
STEP 6:
Fill with scrunched up pieces of kitchen paper and leave to dry.
STEP 7: Make centers.
